The Cygnet Folk Festival takes a people first approach
28th October 2021
Following the announcement by the Premier of Tasmania that took place on the 22nd of October, the Management Committee of the Cygnet Folk Festival would like to make a public statement regarding our upcoming festival to take place on the 14th – 16th January 2022.
As a committee, our number one concern when making decisions regarding festival planning is the health, safety and wellbeing of our community – both the local community and our Folk Music Community.
We have carefully considered the many aspects of the impacts of the festival to our community, the local businesses, performers, crew and ticketholders and we have made the decision to proceed with the festival.
The Officers of Public Health Emergency Operations Centre have completed assessing our COVID-19 Safety Plan application and approval for the Events COVID-19 Safety Plan for a Level Three event has been assessed as appropriate by the Director of Public Health, confirming that the Director has approved the event.
The Festival Management has gone to great lengths to put in place an extensive COVID-19 Safety Plan which will involve measures including contact tracing via our ticketing system and the Tas Government QR Code check in system and providing hand sanitiser and masks at all of our venues. We are working to mitigate any risk to public safety through every aspect of our planning and management of the festival.
We are following all government health guidelines; interstate travellers will need to be double vaccinated, have applied for and had approved their G2G pass and return a negative COVID-19 test within 72 hours prior to boarding their flight.
Under the government health advice, masks will be required to be worn at our indoor venues. Social distancing will be encouraged within our outdoor venues.
All local and state council permits that are required for the festival have been applied for and either approved or are expected to be approved in the coming days. As always we continue to work closely with the Huon Valley Council.
We have not made our decision to proceed with the festival lightly. If, despite all our planning and best efforts, we are required or make the decision to cancel the festival, significant financial and other losses would be incurred. Those losses would be suffered not only by the festival itself, which commits all its funds each year to planning and putting on the event the following year; but also by local businesses, the performers and their support crew, all the people who obtain work during the event and by the local community in general. We know that the festival brings great joy to so many people, and we want to do everything we can to make it happen, especially in our fortieth anniversary year.
In the event that the festival is cancelled, we ask that ticketholders refer to our website for ticketing terms and conditions. You may choose to donate the cost of your ticket to the festival to support us in ensuring that we are able to survive the cancellation and plan for a future festival or you may contact our ticketing team and ask to receive a 90% refund. We will retain 10% to cover costs already incurred.
We would like to thank the local community members and businesses who have shown their support for the 2022 festival in the form of sponsorship and signing up to host artists or volunteer – we could not put this festival on without your generosity.
We look forward to celebrating with you at the festival!
